The Boy from Nag’s Head & The Question of Silence (A few Poems)

The Boy from Nag's Head

- In relation from Sunset into the Eastern Shore

How can I wait for dawn to come?
There have been so many times when they've told me,
""Have faith, your moment is near."

Will I ever see the sun rise?
I believe not.

A silhouette of her on top of a hill.
The sunset impares my vision to see.

Who is this girl?
Will she ever come down?

These prayers are left unknoticed.
Like a letter sent to no one.
Like a tear in the rain.
Like a flower in the desert.

How can one believe when one cannot see.

Oh God, where are you?
When shall you return to me?

The Question of Silence

- In relation to Silence of the Tsaatan

Silence?
What does he mean by silence?

The cosmos are aligning,
Our tribe is dwindling,
The shadow of the future looms over our lives.

Who is this man in glasses that is a thief in the night?
Darkness surrounds him,
No soul he has.

The reindeer flee to the east,
The cosmos are shrinking.
Has this long told prophecy come true?

But wait!
There is hope…
A boy from the west.
Light shines within him, I can feel it.
Like how our elders feel the rain,
I believe in my gift of foresight.

Honor does not allow our people to be absorbed by the modern world,
But to stand and fight those that wish to take our traditions!

I do fear the day when we retreat to the caves.
A prison of technology will consume me.

For the wind guides our people,
Like it does for the falcon in the sky.
He does not worry.
Why shall I?

Faith I have.
When I call upon the earth for aid, she firmly answers.

We do not accept silence.
We do not feel pain.
As the world grows violent,
Our souls cry for change.

We are the Tsaatan.
Herders of reindeers,
Guardians of time.

We are the Tsaatan.
We shall survive!
