Out in this field lies a flower.
Dawn slowly approached over the misty mountains during the turning of the Summer season. A sun in its own description, mighty and bright, not afraid to peak out its shell and show the spinning world its true beauty. This was the time of the year in Montana where the freedom was its finest as there was no school for the young and business was booming from the large wave of tourists and travelers.
Inside her own bed, waves of light hit her face which lit up the soft delicate skin of her cheeks which reflected a think red from the blood that flowed through her own body. Safely awake, she let out a breath of satisfaction and was proud to know that she could not see her own breath this morning because during the hardest of winter nights, her room got to a level of chill which at times were nearly possible to tolerate.
The room slowly began to shift colors from dark to light as all of her posters began to show their true figure such as horses running through the vast free land, painted trees she would draw in her leisure time, and the stars on her roof slowly went from its glow in the dark green to a plain marshmallowy white from the lack of darkness. Reaching up and jumping out of her own bed, she dug into her own drawer and pulled out her favorite dress, one that was made by her own mother, brown with a red heart on the right legging side. As she combed her hair, there were too many things she was truly excited for this day as this was her first week out of school and that would mean she could ride all day without the distraction of homework.
A scent intruded into the bedroom, a scent that was highly familiar to a gourmet breakfast that was being prepared by her own mother inside the kitchen below. The smell of eggs and potatoes were the strongest that she had felt in months since the busyness of the school season brought many running in and outs of doors, and since there was no worries at this time of year, her mom could easily wake up and make a breakfast utilizing the full potential of her love and joy for her daughter with out rushing from points A to B. Looking behind her, she glanced out her bedroom door which was cracked open a little bit. It was as if a red trail of gas which contained the smell of her mother's breakfast was making its way up her own nostrils. Inhaling it deeply, she took a big whiff and relaxed her stiff awaking body.
Making her way downstairs, she entered the living room and sat down at the table where she held up her fork and waited for the breakfast to come. Looking at her reflection in the silver napkin holder, she glanced into it starting to question her own existence. A beautiful daughter you have here, her names means beauty in Russian and now I can see why. Did she think this was true? Twenty she was and never she has never had a boyfriend, even though the many times she has been pursued by one or another, she always turned them down in hopes of finding her knight in shining armor.
Reflecting back on her own memories she heard Do you think my words don't mean anything to you? You say that you have problems with self-image but inside my own head I always tell myself that you are the most beautiful girl that I have ever met in my life. These feelings, she thought, these feelings, where are they coming from? Slowly it felt as to her if something was clawing inside her own brain and bringing back memories that were long forgotten.
It was as if she was living in another body.
Do you think that me not liking you that I am acting irrational towards things? Yes I do, I do believe that you are acting irrational. It seems that no matter how much I give you such as my heart and my life, in the end all I hear from you is thank you. Well I am grateful. You must understand, I only wish you would simply change your mind, because, in the end, it will only hurt us both. There will be a time for our separation into the world. Like you told me... Please don't leave me again, because last time you did, I was hurt very badly. This time, it won't be me that leaves, it will be you. You've known this all along. As long as I am with you I am happy. I just don't want to feel that I am going down a black hole because I am for certain that I am, and indeed I know that there will be no light at the end of it, just complete, obliterating darkness....
Shuddering, she snapped back into her own reality, the breakfast was on the table, eggs and potatoes, and she began to eat them not trying to think what just happened with the random flashbacks inside her head.
"Did you hear the news today my darling?" said the mother. "The weather is going to be perfect and the sun is going to be shining over the plains, what a more glorious time to go out and ride your horse."
"College is one thing," said the girl, "but horse riding is what I have been wanting to do all year."
Her mother was like the ones that are rare in this world, sweet at heart, cares deeply, a warm feeling, and ages gracefully. There has never been anyone closer to her than her mother, she has literally brought through the best of times and even during the toughest, she made them more simple and clean. With her looking outside the window, she only could think on how proud she was of her daughter because after they have all been through together, they were a family of perseverance and strength.
"You seem a little tense this morning? Why is it?"
"Nothing, nothing at all, for some reason, waking up this morning, I felt I was like a little girl and instantly within the course of thirty minutes I aged up to my college body I am now."
"Does that not surprise you?" said the mother. "Because it surprised me, just look how fast you have grown up since you left the house, and now you're planning to move again?"
"Just one step at a time mother, just one step at a time."
The mother wiped of her hands on her apron and looked back at the clock behind her. Lowering her head, she turned back and said to her daughter, "What dreams may come.... what dreams may come my dear." She paused again, "Finish up your breakfast darling, I wouldn't want you to miss out on a wonderful day such as this."
Overall, sitting at the table, the girl had a feeling inside her that she was complete. Knowing all of her friends that have came and gone in the past, she always wondered why their minds were always torn away by the darkness of the world. Deep down inside, she did feel that sense of warmth from her mother, her escape house in Montana, her successful life, her true love for the world. These were things that she felt deep inside that could not be taken away by anything no matter how harsh the consequences that were presented to her.
The girl slowly piece by piece digested her food and after cleaning up her plate and gearing up properly, she headed out to the stable. The walk from her house to the outside world was indeed relaxing, a feeling with the sun absorbing into her summer skin made her content knowing that in this moment, she was truly happy. Inside the stable, the horses were all nodding her heads as if they were trying to signal her to pick the right horse, but the decision was hard, too many choices.
As the sun slowly encroached upon the sky, the true feeling of the stable began to arise, a putrid smell of droppings and stale food. For some reason, she could not remember this occurring at all, it was as like again if someone was still creeping into her own head. The more she thought of her own strength, the stable began to seem more peaceful and happy. In the cracks on the wooden roof, light seeped through its pores and in front of her, she saw the horse with a beam of light directly on it.
That one, she thought.
Saddling up on the grey horse, she smiled because out of all the horses that she has ridden her days, for some reason, this one was the softest and most comfortable she has ever felt. Riding out from the stall, she moved graciously on top of the horse into the wilderness and out to the vast beyond.
Perfection, she thought, absolute perfection. A day that could possibly not get any better it seems. How could such a thing be true? Only because the scent of the wild grass, the countless number of flowers, and the reflection of the sun off of her face. Summer is what she truly loves, and this is why summer truly loves her. A day never went by that she could remember where everything was torn and wasted.
One could say that the temperature was ranging around 70 to 75 degrees during the morning, a glorious fitting for a young adult like herself to ride through the terrain. Once outside, the world was like a sandbox to her, anything she saw, she could do.
Seeing a large grassy hill, she thought, I could ride up that... And she did, she rode to the very top at a speed like no other, with little effort, she clung to the horse with absolute trust because she knew and the horse knew that at this moment in time, they were one. The horse's grey long hairs flew graciously in the wind as the scent being carried along with the wind closely resembled cherries being cooked for a Christmas pie.
At the top of the large grassy hill, she shook her hair and smiled as there was a large gust that was blowing the front of her face which somewhat limited her vision because it was so hard to keep her eyes open, but the only reason she kept looking because there were so many things over the hill that caught her eye. Down below, over the horizon, there had to be hundreds, thousands, millions of trees, untouched, damaged from time. Beauty she believed in, beauty she knew that existed, Venus on earth, Venus absorbing the carbon dioxide of the atmosphere to provide oxygen to the world which would substanciously provide the elements which allowed her to breathe, to live, to experience the wonders of the open vast world.
She envisioned herself riding through the forest, and there she went.
Dodging tree by trees, like an aerodynamic spaceship traveling faster than the speed of light, it was her that was journeying through the timeless forest. If anyone happened to be in the forest at the time, they would only see a large grey mass traveling by, unknown to their own eyes.
Moss, leaves, bark, stumps, roots, squirrels, the songs of the forest, she knew why she always love to come home, this was the freedom from the outside digital world of the 21st century that she was glad to leave behind. As long as the spherical globe called earth kept on spinning, kept on going, there were no other worries to her.
A breaking came, and out of the forest she went into a endless field of grass, a meadow of endless adventure. There was not limit, as far as she could see, she knew that the horse would take her anywhere she wanted. The wind kept blowing graciously that morning and there were various lines and patterns being made in the field as if the paint brush of God was being stroked across the surface of the world each time the gust blew across the horizon.
This is Zion she thought... this is Zion.
Running running running running, the horse kept on running, the grey beauty marched without worry. Sweeter than any wine, brighter than any sun the horse thought, this too was the horse's playground.
Stomp stomp stomp.
March march march.
Faster faster faster.
The horse was speeding up, a speed that the girl could not keep up with.
Stop, she said, stop please! You're going to fast.
The horse did not listen, it was only ignoring her.
Eventually it got to a point where it was frightening her, a point where she had no choice to abandon ship.
In a smooth sweeping move, she ejected herself from the unstable animal's back and tuck and rolled onto the ground where she was panting heavily from being nearly frightened to death.
Standing up, she watched the horse run off into the field with no realization that her rider simply bailed out from fright of its instability. Making a panoramic view of her surroundings, she did not know exactly where she was and getting home would be one big challenge that she would not be expecting to do, but it had to be done.
Taking a last glance at her horse, she tried to call it back, but it did not seem to work. There was a rolling fog in the distance, and with her limited human eyesight, the horse vanished into the moving cloud. The only thing she could think of doing was taking a big sigh kicking the dirt beneath her.
Hunkering down to the ground, she picked up some of the grass beneath her and started to take a large whiff of it.
Cherries, it smells like cherries.
The fog got deeper and deeper, and for the first time this morning, and in a while, she was frightened. The temperature began to rapidly drop and it began to become colder and colder. Grabbing on to herself, she started to shiver from the limited visibly around her.
There was a sound beginning to form in the distance.
What is that? Sounds like a million men running.
Looking down at the world, she saw that things were becoming unstable and shaking.
I don't think there are any huge tectonic plates in Montana, what is causing that?
Truly now, she was afraid for her life. She was beginning to become all mixed up in the wash of fear. The ground was literally moving beneath her, but where was it going?
Glancing up at the foggy distance, she saw her grey horse run out of the smoke right towards her. As she tried to wave it down and get its attention, it simply ran right past her and back to the other side of the field through another patch of heavy fog.
Instantly right in-front of her own eyes, another horse came out of the smoggy distance, and then another, and another until there were at least a handful of horses marching right towards her.
Oh my God, I am going to be trampled.
Running for her life, she tried to maneuver so they would get out of her direct path, but it was not working. As if the horses were magnetically attached to her, she could not get out of their direct path. The horses seem they had a purpose, and that was to run all over her in a stampeding fashion.
I am gonna die, I am gonna die.
The first horse hit, knocking her hard down to the ground causing the girl to spit out blood from her mouth.
Getting the strength to stand up once again, she bounced back and forth against two horses and now she knew there was no way of escaping this situation.
As the air got colder and colder, the girl did not know if it was her body shutting down from internal bleeding or the fact that the fog was blocking out the sun creating a small pocket where she was trying to dodge horses left and right for her dear life.
They kept running and running towards her, and no matter how far, and which direction she was escaping in, it was like as if she was moving around in circles with no exact destination.
Boom! There it was, another horse clipped the back of her ankle causing her Achilles Tendon to snap in two and now she was fully unable to get away.
Dragging herself on the ground by grabbing the hairs of grass as if it was like an organic ladder, she was crying intensely as the worse pain she has ever felt was flowing through her entire body.
Mother! She yelled as that was all she could think of. Mother! Mother fucking help me, help me, help me! I lie here helpless and I am about to die!
Hearing the hooves of horses to continue to emerge from the fog, she turned her head only to see a black horse leading a pack of 5 others in a V shaped formation. Closer and closer they got and with every breath that the girl was breathing, she knew that it was all over, she was going to die, and there was absolutely nothing she could do about it.
The lead black horse stomped right on the girl, smashing all together her internal organs, parts of her ribs broke through her chest, for the first time, visible to the world, and all she could do now as cough out blood, enough to prevent her from screaming any more for help.
The other horses came, one turned her knees into crushed walnuts, broken hand, and smashed elbow. It was as if she could suffer anymore pain the dark horse turned around again and began to run towards the girl again lying helplessly on the ground giving her last breath.
God, God, God! I love you, don't let me die like this. If you are true, you will save me!
Feet by feet, the dark horse ran with lightening speed until she was inches from the girl. At her last moment all she could think of was her love for her mother and all of her friends in her life which have gotten her through so many things.
At the last moment, she looked up at the hooves above her and as if time was frozen, she closed her eyes to prevent her witnessing her entire head en-caving in from the pressure and weight of a full grown horse stomping in the innocent girl's head. Her entire face was disfigured, skull crushed, years of life and memories erased in one single moment. And at that instant in time she was gone.
In the metropolis of San Francisco, a lonely girl woke up in her bed and looked over at the clock to see that it was 3:33 AM. Holding up her hands, she saw that she was completely wake and instantly she bursted into tears knowing that it had been the most photorealistic and frightening dream in her entire life.
All the happiness had been sucked out of her that very moment, and still not knowing how to act, crying and crying she did. Closing her eyes, she went straight back to sleep. Out of her head seem to be a trail of black smoke that seem to creep out the window into the outside world.
There a man was standing there looking through the window down at the girl who was now completely frightened trying to breathe and keep her composure because she did not want to wake up her roommates.
The man stood, fixed at the emotional drained figure as if she was sucking the very life out of her and transferring her heart and soul into his own. Closing his eyes and opening his mouth, he inhaled the black smoke giving him a glowly tint to his own body.
After he completely drained the girl's happiness, the man said, what a way to confess your inner beauty. And with that, he jumped off the fire escape balcony outside the poor girl's window and floated off into the city skyline freely as if he was a bird that was being released by his cage.
Fearing for her life, the girl continued to cry, alone and no one to hold onto.
